Members and guests of Los Vaqueros de las Montañas Riding Club are uniquely blessed to have almost unlimited trail riding available to them. Big Bear Lake is located at 7000 feet elevation in the San Bernardino National Forest in sunny southern California. The area is rich in ranching, timber, and mining history, and provides for fantastic trail opportunities for riders of every skill level. You’ll find the historic Pacific Crest Trail (www.pcta.org) meandering through our mountains. Originally the old cowboy trail from Mexico to Canada, the PCT gives both equestrians and hikers a chance to travel unspoiled wilderness, which in our case, is right out
our back door!
Los Vaqueros offers our members and their guests regularly scheduled opportunities to ride different sections of our local mountains (you’ll find this year’s schedule in the calendar section of this site). We visit high mountain lakes like Dry Lake and Dollar Lake, ride the trail up to Wild Horse Canyon, climb the path up to historic Holcomb Valley, and much, much more. Our trail rides are led by a group of experienced trail bosses, always have a lunch stop, and we try to ride where there will be water for the horses whenever possible. This is going to be an exceptionally good year to get out on your horse and see some gorgeous country. See you on the trail!
