On Saturday nights from July 2nd to September 30th, you’ll find the members of Los Vaqueros, their guests, and our friends from “down the hill” testing their horses and horsemanship against cattle from our herd in the ranch sorting or team penning competitions.
Sign-ups start at 6:00pm, and the first team rides at 6:30. You are invited to join the Vaqueros Cattleman's Association, which involves a one-time annual fee of $150 that is essentially a “season pass” to play with the cattle. Money from these fees goes towards providing cattle for the club and offsetting feed costs.
You may also “pay as you go”. Sorting costs for Vaqueros members are $20 for adults, children $10. Non member fees are $25 for adults & children $15.
We have two big summer sorting events; our Independence Day sorting held the weekend of July 4th, and the big Sort-O-Palooza on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Last year both events paid out thousands in cash and prizes! Sorting is open to beginners, experts, or anything in between!
We will be having a few practices on Wednesday night, so check back here for updates.
Congratulations to Kim Voight and Brad Flanders for winning the buckles!!
Great job you two.
